Welcome to John & Ellen's fundraising page!
Why We Ride!
As most of you know, John and I have been involved with the PBTF Ride for kids for several years. But what you may not know is why we support this organization. PBTF is the largest non-governmental funder of research on pediatric brain tumors--and the research is making a difference. Thirteen kids are diagnosed with a brain tumor every day in the US. Thirty years ago when the Ride for Kids started, that diagnosis was a virtual death sentence. Thankfully, a child diagnosed today has a 60% chance of surviving. But even those who survive often live with devastating effects from their treatment. With continued research, we are fighting for their futures and we hope to someday to find a cure.
RFK is unique because the kids ride along. For several years, John has had the privilege of riding with a "star" in his sidecar- such as Maggie, a now-17 year old survivor or Ethan, a young boy with big dreams for the future. In recent years, PBTF has also begin funding scholarships for survivors--a need that didn't exist in the beginning because kids with brain tumors didn't live long enough to reach college. PBTF also has a resource network for parents & families, to help them as their child goes through this struggle.
So why am I writing to you? Because the only way to raise money is to ask. Help us reach our fundraising goal and support us as we join hundreds of other motorcyclists on a ride to cure the kids.
You can donate online -- it's safe, secure and easy.
We thank you--and so do the kids.
