Starry Night Houston 8.5K
Texans showed up by the hundreds to support children battling brain tumors at the Starry Night Houston 8.5K on Oct. 3.
Stars had a blast at the Starry Night
Houston 8.5K event.
The event, which benefits the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, had raised $32,600 by walk/run time to help fund the foundation’s research and family support programs.
Walkers and runners met for the evening walk/run at Sesquicentennial Park to honor local children with brain tumors. Houston's Stars were Ave, Benjamin, Kaitlin, Kaitlyn, Liam, Malcolm, Mandy, Pierce and Trent.
Participants lit lanterns at the end of the event to honor children affected by a brain tumor diagnosis, including many who are no longer with us.
The event’s Hero Awards honored Candace Hurt and Dr. Will Parsons of Texas Children’s Cancer Center. "I think this is an excellent event for people to come together to raise awareness for pediatric brain tumors," Parsons said.
As of Oct. 5, the top individual fundraiser was Candace Hurt ($3,000) and the top team was Team Liam ($7,135). The event will continue to raise funds online until Nov. 3.
Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who organized the event, including committee members Petie Lebanowski, Hope Koehler, Michelle Larkey, Rae Millican, and Sissel Carlsen.
